I recently had the pleasure of attending one of the inaugural sailings of Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Destiny. You might notice this is titled My Five Most Favorite Things about the ship, but narrowing it down to five was not easy. I actually have far more than five favorites, but these truly stood out to me.

1. The Haunted Mansion Parlor

My number one favorite is the Haunted Mansion Parlor. This lounge takes immersive storytelling to a whole new level. From the entranceway to the décor inside, even the cast members stay completely in character. The spirits and “spirits” add so much fun to the experience.

The interactive drink menu even includes a secret drink if you can solve the puzzle. Madam Leota chimes in throughout the evening to summon the spirits, and if you’re lucky, you might even get to participate. I was able to shake the tambourine and ring the bell!

The Haunted Mansion Parlor is open to guests of all ages until 9:00 p.m., with fun non-alcoholic options available. After 9:00 p.m., it becomes adult-exclusive. Between the ghostly fish tanks and lightning flashes, this is one spooky experience you will not want to miss.

2. The Villains

The theme of the Disney Destiny is “Heroes and Villains,” and the villain experiences are fantastic.

De Vil’s Piano Lounge is inspired by Cruella De Vil’s bold sense of fashion. If you time it just right, you may even get the chance to help Cruella change her classic tune into something more to her liking.

My daughter and I had such a fun time meeting and interacting with several villains onboard, including Dr. Facilier, Loki, and Maleficent.

Under Her Spell: A Maleficent Encounter takes place in the Saga Lounge. During this show, Maleficent demonstrates her magical powers and invites brave guests to approach her. Dr. Facilier sets up his own parlor in the upper levels of the Grand Hall, where he just might test your abilities. The real question is, are you brave enough?

3. Rotational Dining

Disney Cruise Line is well known for its rotational dining, and the Disney Destiny absolutely delivers. There are three restaurants, each with its own theme, menu, and immersive experience.

The Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King transports you to the savanna from the moment you walk down the hallway toward the restaurant. While you dine, live performers take you on a musical journey through songs from The Lion King. The menu features flavors inspired by African cuisine.

Pro Tip: The performers pose for photos near the exit at the end of dinner service, so be sure to have your camera ready.

At 1923, you step back in time to the year Walt Disney opened his studio. The restaurant is divided into the Walt Disney and Roy Disney sides and offers California-inspired cuisine. The décor includes storyboards, sketches, and props from classic Disney animations.

Pro Tip: Check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app and consider enjoying breakfast or lunch at 1923. We tried both and thought they were excellent.

Finally, there is Worlds of Marvel, where Baby Groot keeps the energy high during this celebration of Earth’s mightiest heroes. The soundtrack features favorites from the Guardians of the Galaxy films, and you may find yourself singing or even dancing along in your seat.

Pro Tip: Brush up on your Marvel trivia before dinner. Questions pop up on the screen throughout the experience.

4. The Entertainment

In my opinion, Disney entertainment is always top notch, and the shows aboard the Disney Destiny certainly prove that.

On the first night, we saw Disney Seas the Adventure, a fun and uplifting show featuring Captain Minnie and friends as they explore new horizons.

The second night was Disney’s Hercules. The talent, the storytelling, and the stage design were incredible.

Last but certainly not least was Frozen, A Musical Spectacular. It was engaging and emotional. I laughed, and yes, I cried. If I had the opportunity to see any of these shows again during the cruise, I absolutely would. Make time for the performances. They are worth it.

5. The Grand Hall

Last, but certainly not least, is the Grand Hall. It is a beautiful example of storytelling combined with signature Disney elegance.

From the moment you step onboard, the soaring ceilings, dramatic lighting, and rich details set the tone for the entire cruise. At the center stands a striking Black Panther statue that brings the spirit of Wakanda to life and reinforces the ship’s heroic theme.

The Grand Hall stays lively throughout the day with character appearances, live entertainment, and special moments. It naturally becomes a gathering place for guests. Whether you stop for a photo or simply take in the atmosphere, this is where Disney storytelling truly shines.

From heroic design to unforgettable entertainment and elevated dining, the Disney Destiny delivers a cruise experience that goes beyond expectations. These favorites are just a glimpse of what makes this ship so special. The real magic comes from discovering your own unforgettable moments onboard.

Whether you are a first-time cruiser or a longtime Disney Cruise Line fan, the Disney Destiny is designed to surprise, delight, and inspire at every turn.
