One of the questions I get asked most often is: “Which Disney Cruise Line ship is the best?” And my answer is always the same: it depends on who is sailing. Because when it comes to Disney Cruise Line, best isn’t one-size-fits-all — it varies based on your priorities, your group, your itinerary, and what kind of experience you’re after.

I’ve experienced every Disney Cruise Line ship except Treasure (one day!), and while I haven’t sailed on Wonder, I’ve had the chance to tour it. So, when I talk about the differences, it’s not coming from brochures or deck plans — it’s coming from real spaces, real dining rooms, real shows, and real guest experiences.

With the debut of Disney Destiny, many clients are wondering how she compares to the rest of the fleet. Here’s my honest, experience-based breakdown of what makes Destiny different — and who she’s best for.

Disney Cruise Line is known for delivering an incredible experience no matter which ship you sail on, but Disney Destiny truly stands apart. As one of the newest ships in the fleet, she introduces fresh storytelling, bold design choices, and next-generation features that set her in a league of her own.

A Bold New Theme: Heroes, Villains & Destiny Itself

Every Disney ship has a personality, but Disney Destiny leans fully into Disney storytelling on an epic scale. While ships like:

  •  Disney Magic & Wonder feel classic and elegant
  • Disney Dream & Fantasy embrace royal fairytale vibes
  • Disney Wish focuses on enchantment and wishes

Disney Destiny is bolder.

Her theme centers on heroes, villains, and the idea of destiny itself, and you can feel that shift the moment you step onboard. From the public spaces to the artwork to the overall atmosphere, Destiny feels more cinematic and dramatic than the other ships I’ve sailed.

Pro Tip: If you love Marvel, Star Wars, strong character storytelling, or a slightly more mature Disney vibe, Destiny will likely be your ship.

On Disney’s older ships, the design is classic cruise ship first, with Disney details layered in—and it’s beautifully done. Disney Destiny, though, takes immersion to a whole different level.

Instead of just decorating spaces, Destiny feels like you’re actually stepping into a story:

Lounges don’t feel like “just bars.” Walking into the Haunted Mansion Parlor honestly feels like being dropped straight into the attraction. Even our server, John, stayed perfectly deadpan while serving our themed drinks.

The big spaces are designed to be wow moments, the kind where you stop, look around, and say, “Okay… this is impressive.”

The whole ship feels modern and theatrical, not nautical-classic.

This was one of the biggest differences I noticed—Destiny feels far less traditional cruise ship and much more fully themed than the older ships.

Entertainment That Feels Bigger and More Advanced

Disney Cruise Line has always excelled at onboard entertainment, but Destiny benefits from being one of the newest ships in the fleet.

That means:

  • Newer technology
  • More immersive staging
  • Shows designed with modern effects in mind – the special effects in Disney Hercules and Frozen, A Musical Spectacular were impressively executed.

While I’ve loved the shows across all Disney ships, Destiny’s entertainment feels larger in scale and more dynamic, especially for guests who enjoy high-energy performances and strong storytelling.

Dining With a Stronger Story Focus

Rotational dining is one of my favorite parts of Disney cruising, and Destiny continues that tradition — but with a twist. Compared to classic favorites like Animator’s Palate or Royal Court, Destiny’s dining venues lean more heavily into:

  • Theme
  • Story
  • Atmosphere

The experience feels more immersive, especially for older kids, teens, and adults who appreciate detailed theming beyond just character appearances. I was most excited about Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King and it didn’t disappoint. The powerful singing voices, combined with the African themed menu, were one of the highlights of our voyage.

Who I Recommend Disney Destiny For

Based on what I know from sailing the fleet and helping clients choose ships, Disney Destiny is an especially great fit for:

  • Families with older kids or teens
  • Marvel and Star Wars fans
  • Repeat Disney cruisers looking for something new
  • Adults who love Disney but want a more dramatic, modern feel

Younger kids will still have amazing kids’ clubs and character experiences — but if your family has moved past princess-heavy storytelling, Destiny really shines. The youth areas are exceptionally well-themed, including the Star Wars: Cargo Bay, which was jaw-dropping for a parent of Star Wars fans.

Pro Tip: If your family has outgrown princess-heavy themes but still loves Disney, Destiny is a fantastic choice.

So… Is Disney Destiny “Better” Than the Other Ships?

Not better — just different.

That’s something I emphasize with every client I work with. Each Disney ship excels at something, and the “best” ship is the one that matches your family’s travel style. Disney Destiny is bold, immersive, and unlike any Disney ship that came before her. She represents a shift toward more cinematic storytelling and modern design — and for the right family, she’s an incredible choice.

If you’re trying to decide between Disney Destiny and another Disney Cruise Line ship, working with a travel agent who’s actually been onboard makes a difference. My goal is always to help you choose the ship you’ll love most — not just the newest one.

Because the right Disney cruise should feel like destiny — not a gamble.
