A trip to Walt Disney World extends far beyond the rides, it is an immersive experience at every turn and this includes the dining. The delectable bites you will find will transport you to places both familiar and those we’ve dreamt of. With that comes the wide array of sought after dining reservations that we all strategize acquiring at that 60 day mark. I am here to reassure you that some of the most incredible dining experiences don’t require a reservation at all. Yes, you read that right!
Let’s begin at Animal Kingdom Park where our taste buds will take trips through Africa, Asia and Pandora. On the hike over to Pandora you will find a lovely lounge, Nomad Lounge. This oasis is a delightful stop and offers both indoor and outdoor dining. Sitting outdoors is breezy and perfect to view those adorable flotillas drifting by with some of our most beloved characters. No matter your choice of seating, you will be pleasantly surprised with the enticing small bites and enchanting cocktails that all have Latin, Asian and African influence. Dare I say, Nomad lounge offers the best churros in all of Walt Disney World?!
As we venture from Nomad Lounge up into Pandora we will no doubt be in awe of the hanging mountains and breathtaking views which tends to work up our appetites yet again. It is the perfect time to stop in at Satu’li Canteen. Here you will be immersed into the world of the Navi, surrounded with their art, culture and cuisine. Several customizable bowl options as well as steamed pods which are scrumptious bao bun options are served here. One of the most beautiful and delicious bites here is featured on their dessert menu, Metkayina Mousse. This is a flourless chocolate cake with raspberry gelee,mango coulis, chocolate mousse, boba pearls and a lovely white & milk chocolate garnish. Yes, it’s as good as it sounds and looks like a piece of art.
Let’s venture into Epcot as we head to the Morocco pavilion for scrumptious small plates that come with a view. Spice Road Table offers Moroccan/Mediterranean style tapas that are fit for a sultan. You could pretty much close your eyes and point to any item on this menu but some of my favorites here include the lamb kefta, naan spreads, fried calamari and spiced chicken. Although they have a delightful bar I never skip the refreshing Moroccan mint tea. If you arrive close to the hour of the night time show, you may have the best seats in the house to view the stunning display while enjoying your delectable spread.
Want to feel like a Hollywood star while you dine like one? You guessed it! Our next stop is Hollywood Studios where we will skip the reservation at The Hollywood Brown Derby and head over to their lounge instead. The Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge is the perfect stop to indulge in libations and some of the finer things. Filet mignon, lamb shank and seafood cioppino are a few of the options but if you want a classic and something slightly lighter, the famous cobb salad is perfect! I will never stop singing the praises of the grapefruit martini or the grapefruit cake. These are menu originals and have been a part of the menu as it was once thought that grapefruit was great for weight loss and maintaining those perfect Hollywood figures.
So indulge away, calories don’t count here.
This brings us outside of the parks to the fabulous Grand Floridian Resort. Enchanted Rose Lounge is a splendid spot for a date night and a must stop on any monorail crawl. This Beauty and the Beast inspired establishment offers snacks, appetizers and shimmering cocktails. The Lavender Fog is a must try and is mad with dry gin, Rothman creme de violette, English breakfast tea, vanilla and creme. As for the delicious bites, do not leave without experiencing the house made truffle fries, prepared with black truffle, aged parmesan and served with truffle aioli. You’ll thank me later.
So although dining reservations and character dining experiences are an incredible addition to our Walt Disney World vacations, rest assured and feel confident in knowing you are in for some truly magical treats that await, even without those reservations.
