A cruise is one of my favorite types of vacations to take. There are a variety of options for ships, destinations, and there is something for everyone in your family on board a cruise ship. Cruises can also be romantic and are a popular option for honeymoons, anniversaries, or just to get away without the kids for a few days. You get that all-inclusive feel, but the price point is usually less expensive than flying to a Caribbean island.

Pro tip: For an even more romantic getaway feeling you might want to check out Virgin Voyages, the only adult-only cruise line available that also features posh ships with amazing food, drinks, and entertainment.

But how romantic is a cruise? And what things are there to do on a cruise ship with your sweetheart? Here are my top 5 Romantic Things To Do On A Cruise;

  1. Shop for some new bling. What is more romantic than surprising her with a new diamond ring or a string of pearls? Most cruise ships have a variety of shopping on board and always one or two fancy jewelry stores. You can find luxury brands of diamonds, emeralds, pearls, watches, and more. Just be sure to have a budget in mind and don’t feel pressured to buy more than you intend.
  2. Attend a show, class, or seminar. There is a wide variety of activities and entertainment on board a cruise ship to choose from. Find something that appeals to both of you, that you both enjoy, and make a night out of it. Grab a glass of champagne or wine at one of the bars (find one of the bars that is more upscale and fancy), and then enjoy one of the Broadway style shows in the main theater, or a good laugh at the Comedy Club. There are usually beverage seminars as well, classes to show you how to make certain cocktails, or a wine tasting (sometimes paired with chocolate or cheese). Or perhaps an Art Auction is more your thing. Whatever interests you have, there is a show or activity planned during your cruise that will be the perfect way to spend time together.
  3. Hang out in the adult only pool or hot tub. Most cruise ships have a special area on the upper decks that is just for adults. This adult only area may have it’s own pool, or hot tubs, a nice bar and sometimes even an adult only restaurant. This can be a calming oasis especially on an “at sea” day and there are a lot of kids running around the main pool area. Lounge around, enjoy a cocktail and a bite to eat, and enjoy the view of the ocean as you sail by.
  4. Book a Couples Massage at the spa. The spa is always one of my favorite parts of a cruise ship! Whether you just want to enjoy the hydrotherapy circuit or pamper yourselves with an entire day of treatments, this is the place where you come for ultimate relaxation and bliss. Most spas offer couples treatments, some even have special Spa Suites for couples that have their own private hot tubs, and you can have champagne and chocolate covered strawberries to enjoy after your massage.
  5. Have a romantic dinner at one of the Specialty Restaurants. Enjoying all of the amazing food is one of my favorite parts of a cruise. I find the Specialty Restaurants on board a cruise ship, although an additional charge, are worth every penny. From seafood to steakhouses to Italian bistros – there is an option for every palate. The atmosphere at these upscale restaurants is also more quiet and serene than the Main Dining room can be, and certainly less crowded. You can enjoy a romantic, gourmet meal tucked in a corner at a table for two and just enjoy your time together.

Of course, for the ultimate romantic experience, consider combining two or three of these into one epic day of romance!

Pro tip: Even if you are on a cruise with your kids, utilize the included kids clubs to “babysit” for you at least one night of the cruise to enjoy some adult-only time to reconnect.
