A Disney Cruise is unlike any other cruise that you have been on. The magic and wonder of the “Disney Touch” elevates a Disney Cruise to a whole other level. From the rotational dining featuring special Disney character appearances and music, to the only fireworks show at sea, there are a lot of reasons a Disney Cruise is the perfect family vacation. Once you have gone on a Disney Cruise your family will be begging to go on another one!

If you are daydreaming about planning a Disney Cruise then you have to read our Top 5 Must Dos for any Disney Cruise! This list will give you a taste of what to expect and insider tips and inspiration for what to plan for.

  1. Make Time for Character Meet and Greets
Of course on a Disney Cruise you will get to meet Disney characters! There are multiple opportunities during a Disney Cruise to meet a wide range of characters, from the Fab Five to your favorite princesses. On longer itineraries you can even make reservations for a Character Breakfast which is complimentary! (The Character Breakfast books up fast so be sure to tell your Travel Agent if you want to attend so they can book you as soon as possible.)Whether it’s the Sail Away Party, Princess Meet and Greet, or just an impromptu character sighting, there are lots of chances for you to see your favorite character. You can check your Disney Cruise App for a daily schedule of appearances and their locations.4. Decorate Your Stateroom Door
A fun fact about stateroom doors on a Disney Cruise ship is that they are made of metal and magnets stick to them! (There are a few Concierge level staterooms that have wooden doors). Over the years, cruisers on Disney Cruise Line have really taken this fact and ran with it, creating personalized door decor. Now decorating your stateroom door has become a fun way to make your door standout or to call attention to something special you are celebrating, like a birthday or anniversary.

There are lots of options you can purchase online through sites like Etsy, or you can create your own with scrapbooking materials, a Cricut, or other craft materials. A popular option is a large magnet with your family name and sail date, and then small mickey heads for each member of your family with their names on them.

    3. Enjoy All of the Main Dining Rooms
Something that is unique about Disney Cruises is their Rotational Dining. Unlike other cruise lines, where you would dine in the same Main Dining Room for the duration of your cruise, on a Disney Cruise you change Dining Rooms each evening. This is because all of the Dining Rooms on the Disney Cruise Ships are completely different, special experiences. Each ship has three Dining Rooms so on every cruise you will get to try each one, no matter the length of your sailing.

Each Disney Cruise ship has slightly different Dining Rooms too, so even if you do another Disney Cruise on a different ship you will get to experience all new dining options. Some of the Dining Rooms even feature a special show, like Rapunzel’s Royal table where you get to celebrate Rapunzel’s birthday with a whole cast of characters, or Tiana’s Place where you will enjoy a live jazz band and meet the princess herself. At Animator’s Palate you might get to talk to Crush the turtle or see your own drawing come to life on the screens all around the room. Each Dining Room has something different to offer so each night is new and exciting.

    2. Dine at Palo
You may be thinking that a Disney Cruise is all geared towards the kids, but there are actually a ton of amenities just for adults. One of my favorite adult only experiences on a Disney Cruise is enjoying a delicious brunch or dinner at Palo. Palo does come with an additional cost, but it is minimal compared to the level of quality food and service that you will enjoy during your meal there. The restaurant is Italian themed (Palo means “pole” in Italian, in this case referring to the poles used by gondoliers to steer their boats) and it has an elegant, fine dining atmosphere perfect for a romantic date night. Consider adding the Wine Pairing to your meal for an enhanced experience.

On most days at sea you can also enjoy a Champagne Brunch at Palo, featuring a dazzling spread of both sweet and savory options. And don’t worry about the kids – they can hang out at the Oceaneer Club where they will enjoy dining with their new friends! Advance reservations are highly recommended for Palo and can be arranged through your Mystical Dream Travel Agent.

    1. Attend the Pirate Party and Fireworks Show
Arguable the most fun night on a Disney Cruise is Pirate Party night. Each and every sailing features a Pirate Party (usually the last At Sea day of your sailing but you can check your itinerary on the app for the exact day) which then culminates in a Fireworks At Sea show. The Pirate Party starts early evening and will typically feature a deck party that starts around 9, so even if you have the second seating for dinner you will be able to attend.

Speaking of dinner, the Dining Rooms will also feature a transformation to a Pirate Theme for the evening as well! And then after the festivities there is a late-night Pirate Buffet that features Pirate themed treats. Guests really get into the Pirate Party and many people, even adults, will dress up in Pirate gear for the event. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique will even offer special Pirate makeovers that day! I highly recommend that you pack some Pirate attire so you can dress up and get into the fun too.

As you can see there are lots of reasons that a Disney Cruise is a magical experience for everyone in your family.
