Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo are together known as Los Cabos. These two cities are located at the southern tip of Baja California in Mexico. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Cabo twice in the past two years. The peninsula is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Sea of Cortez to the east. Cabo has been rated as one of the top 5 tourist destinations in Mexico, known for its beaches, marine life and El Arco.

On our first trip to Cabo, we stayed at Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort. To say that this resort is beautiful is an understatement. It is set along the Pacific, making swimming in the ocean a little difficult. Secrets is a luxury all-inclusive resort for adults only. Unlike some other adult-only all-inclusive, there are rooms available with 2 beds, making this resort great for a girlfriend getaway or even a business trip! The service was amazing and the grounds are beautiful. But enough about the resort…..let’s talk about things to do.

We booked an excursion to swim with the dolphins at Dolphin Discovery. We were able to get in the water and interact with the dolphins. My favorite part was holding onto the dorsal fin of two of these intelligent mammals and actually swimming with them. It was an experience that I will never forget!

We also took a tour on a glass bottom boat. Our tour guides were feeding the fish so that we were able to have an awesome view of all of the fish. But that was not my favorite part of this excursion. My favorite part was seeing El Arco. El Arco is a rock formation at the southern tip of Cabo San Lucas where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez. On one side of El Arco you have the calm waters of the Sea of Cortez and on the other are the rougher waters of the Pacific. We had the chance to see sea lions up close as this is a popular gathering area for them. On our tour, we also visited Lover’s Beach and Divorce Beach. Lover’s Beach is beautiful and calm and Divorce Beach is rough and rocky. I loved listening to our guide’s story of how the beaches were named. Curious?? Visit Cabo and find out yourself!

On our second trip to Cabo, we stayed on the calmer Sea of Cortez at Sheraton Grand Los Cabos Hacienda del Mar. We purchased the all-inclusive package, but because the entire resort is not all-inclusive, we had to wear bracelets during our stay. The architecture and grounds were stunning! This is not an adults-only resort, so families are welcome.

On this trip, we decided to do an ATV tour. We rode through the desert then along the beach. We stopped for a water break and the tour guide showed us some of the vegetation in the desert. It’s so interesting to hear how the locals use all of their resources.

Our second excursion, and last in Cabo for the time, was whale watching. We were there in February during whale watching season. The guide first took us to El Arco to admire God’s creation. Although we had seen it the year before, I was still in awe at how beautiful it was. Then we were off to find some whales. The guides will tell you that they cannot guarantee that you will see any of the mammals. They know their habits and where to find them, but it’s not guaranteed. Well….we hit the jackpot!!! I think we were about 10 ft from one of these amazing creatures at one point. Most of the time we were just able to see their backs and tails, but one actually breached (jumped out of the water)!! I was in shock and it happened so fast that I didn’t get any pictures. This was by far my favorite excursion!!

Los Cabos is a beautiful place to visit! There are so many resorts and hotels to choose from. It is also a popular port of call for many cruise ships. Tourism is a very important part of their economy. There are so many things to do and see in Los Cabos. Add this destination to your vacation bucket list!
