The Rocky Mountaineer provides luxury rail journeys through the Canadian and American Rockies. Last month, I was fortunate to experience their Rockies to the Red Rocks route along with my husband, which goes between Denver, Colorado and Moab, Utah. It was an amazing experience and here are my top five reasons why I think one should take this journey for themselves.
- Beautiful Scenery and Stunning Wildlife – The route between Denver and Moab (or vice versa depending where you start) is full of stunning scenery from the red rocks in Utah to the lush forests and canyons along the Colorado River, with snow-capped mountains in the distance. We also saw numerous bald eagles, elk, and pronghorn along the journey. We were treated to an even more beautiful experience by going in the fall and seeing the gorgeous fall foliage and I would highly recommend taking this journey at the beginning of October.
- The Train Can Go Where Cars Can Not – The only way to see many of the amazing sights I witnessed is to go by train, as there are not roads in the areas. We were able to venture through numerous canyons along the journey.
- Impeccable Service – The hosts who were with us in our rail car on the journey were fantastic. We wanted for nothing and the service we received was top notch. When we stopped at our hotel the first night our luggage was already there waiting for us, and motor coach was provided to and from the hotel if we wanted to take advantage of it.
- Delicious Included Dining – On our first day aboard the Rocky Mountaineer we received an appetizer and dinner and on our second day we received breakfast and lunch, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The food was delicious, and they were also great with working with my dietary restrictions.
Wonderful Storytelling and History During the Journey – On our way from Moab to Denver, the hosts informed us of the rich history of the region, and they told us stories about past train rides they had experienced. Through their storytelling, a spirit of comradery developed in the train car, and we got to know others who were on the journey with us.
We had an amazing experience on our journey with the Rocky Mountaineer and I would highly recommend taking this adventure.
